Post subject: tex packages : updmap-sys failed. Output has been stored
Trying to upgrade any tex related package is a bad idea currently. Seems to be caused by the packages build by src:texlive-bin from version 2013.20130516.30500-1, but manifests itself in other tex packages like tex-common:

      Code:
Setting up tex-common (4.03) ...
Running mktexlsr. This may take some time... done.
Running updmap-sys. This may take some time...
updmap-sys failed. Output has been stored in
/tmp/updmap.bBEhK0C5
Please include this file if you report a bug.

Sometimes, not accepting conffile updates in /etc/texmf/updmap.d
causes updmap-sys to fail.  Please check for files with extension
.dpkg-dist or .ucf-dist in this directory

dpkg: error processing tex-common (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of luatex:
 luatex depends on tex-common (>= 4.03); however:
Package tex-common is not configured yet.

dpkg: error processing luatex (--configure):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
 tex-common
 luatex

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=709159

Don't bother trying to check for what the error message suggests, I don't even have this directory, so I am sure as hell that no such files are lingering in it. Wink

The new version of src:texlive-bin 2013.20130521.30601-1 is supposed to fix it. Not tested as it hasn't reached my mirror yet. Just relax for a while if you have tex-related packages installed.

In my 64bit systems texlive is in automatic hold.

For me its just needing texlive-doc-base to be updated

Please put texlive on hold for a while.
It removes essential modules (packages).
I have a broken texlive in a 386 test PC.

Are these fixed? Checking the bug reports in DonKult's post, they say "Fixed in version texlive-bin/2013.20130521.30601-1". I now have:

      Quote:

root@t510[/home/finotti]# apt-cache policy texlive-binaries
texlive-binaries:
Installed: 2012.20120628-4
Candidate: 2013.20130522.30620-1
Version table:
2013.20130522.30620-1 0
500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sid/main amd64 Packages
*** 2012.20120628-4 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

LaTeX is essential to my work and I need to hold until this is fixed. (Thanks for reporting it, BTW!)

Thanks and best to all,

Luis

P.S.: APT also wants to remove texlive-doc-base and texlive-doc-en. Are these being replaced or just still behind?

In my case texlive-doc-base and texlive-doc-gr were removed.
I was able to install texlive-doc-gr with apt.

texlive-doc-base has problems

      Quote:
apt-get install texlive-doc-base
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
biblatex bibtex2html etoolbox kile latex-beamer latex-xcolor latex2rtf logreq pgf texlive-base texlive-bibtex-extra texlive-extra-utils texlive-fonts-recommended
texlive-generic-recommended texlive-humanities texlive-lang-greek texlive-latex-base texlive-latex-extra texlive-latex-recommended texlive-luatex texlive-math-extra
texlive-pictures texlive-plain-extra texlive-publishers texlive-science texlive-xetex tipa
The following NEW packages will be installed:
texlive-doc-base
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 27 to remove and 9 not upgraded.
Need to get 1,651 kB of archives.
After this operation, 396 MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? n

However, in a few test I did xelatex works.

So, my problem seems to be fixed, but I don't really use tex at the moment, the few tex-related packages I have are build-dependencies of APT which works (but also did before it was fixed).

Regarding the removal of texlive-doc* packages: This is okay, the packages are removed from the archive as all their files are now in other packages.
See http://packages.qa.debian.org/t/texlive ... 0009Z.html and http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=709200
Sounds like you should ensure that texlive-lang-* packages are installed for the languages you need rather than texlive-doc-* packages.

So is everyone fine now and I should mark this as solved or has anybody still a problem / question left unanswered?

I think this sums it up (especially the part I bolded):

In my case, texlive-lang-croatian doesn't have a new version but its files are now in texlive-lang-european. Though it did took a little investigative work to find that out, I'm wondering why apt wasn't instructed to replace texlive-lang-croatian with texlive-lang-european.
