Here is an interesting post showing some apt and dpkg command line usages

http://tuxarena.blogspot.com/2010/09/co ... -tips.html

the only not to follow in aptosid, as far as I remember, is the auto-clean one. Please confirm or deny this, people with more experience than me

Ciao

Isn't it the apt-get autoremove that shouldn't be used ?

http://sidux.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB ... amp;t=4344

never had problems with apt-get autoclean

We strongly recommend to not use apt-get autremove and apt-get upgrade on sidux. Both are not suited for the complex dependency and name changes in Debian sid.
apt-get clean and autoclean are completely ok and recommended.
Always prefer to use apt-get instead of dpkg, the later one is not able to resolve dependencies.
Greetings,
Chris

argh sorry...I remembered that auto-something was wrong...(I must confess I spent some time with ubuntu for trying Gnome...)

So I'm back to the new named distro and thank you guys for the correction.

ps. @slam: I think you should open a new post (if it's not done) with the windows usb installer which already works with the new aptosid. (kudos!)

No need to install Ubuntu just to try GNOME, it is all in Debian Sid. So just feel free to use it on your aptosid system, BUT... we gnomies are on our own, because there is no official support for Gnome here, just some user based assistance in the case of dist-upgrade problems.
