I have the problem, but it turns out irqbalance DOES actually start for me:

      Code:
$ ps -ef|grep irqbalance
root      2318     1  0 21:47 ?        00:00:00 /usr/sbin/irqbalance
rmdata   7556  7539  0 21:54 pts/1    00:00:00 grep irqbalance

Seems like that missing bang is a cosmetic bug to me

Ok, so actually what does this error result in? To be honest I missed the information about the fail at start and didn't see any differences while using the system.

So is it only 64bit.
And what damage does this bug cause?
Coz I'm on 32bit and ready to dist-upgrade.

Same as DeepDayze here -- I see the red error message during boot, but afterward the process is actually running.

The irqbalance failure error on boot is NOT a real error. irqbalance is running with or without the bang.

a lot of fuss over nothing, but better to have alerted everyone...

Think the lsb-base devs should put the bang back and then it'll fix that annoying error. Wonder why the bang was taken out anyway?

After DU of oct. 03, lsb-base has been updated to 3.2-25 and the "failed"-message concerning irq-balance at startup disappeared on my two computers.
