HI,

I have the sun-java6-jre and plugin installed but for some reason when I run the java test applet from the java.com website it will always fail.

I can run java from the console and when I go into about:plugins in iceweasel it shows Java(TM) Plug-in 1.6.0_26 as being installed.

I also tried openjdk with the icedtea-plugin but that wouldn't install.

I do not know why java will not run on any websites. Below is the errors I get when running the java test. It says classes are not found. Does anyone have any ideas why it may not run?

Edit: I am running AMD64.

Thanks

You can try in konsole, run as root
      Code:
update-alternatives --config java

and choose #2

you may need to restart your browser (close all browser windows and re-open)

I have run this command from the konsole and this is what I got.

There is only one alternative in link group java: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java
Nothing to configure.

Are you compiling java or programming with it ?

This occurs because the classpath is not setup or referenced correctly

Have you tried
      Code:
apt-get remove --purge  sun-java6-jre*

      Code:
apt-get clean

      Code:
apt-get install sun-java6-plugin

I am trying to play a web game. I have found the solution.

To fix this issue you need to go in /etc/sysctl.d/bindv6only.conf and you have to change this line:
net.ipv6.bindv6only=1

To this:
net.ipv6.bindv6only=0

And run: invoke-rc.d procps restart

Just a heads up on what is coming

sun-java6 packages removed soon from Debian/Ubuntu (and all other linux distros)
