My Intel ipw2200 wireless card (Dell Latitude 110L) keeps disconnecting when it's idling and will not reconnect without a reboot. This is driving me nuts! I read everywhere and tried disable its power-saving feature (with command: # iwpriv eth1 set_power 6) and tried tweaking tcp_keepalive settings in sysctl. Nothing worked so far. There is nothing wrong with hardware itself as puppylinux and xp both work absolutely fine. I was very happy that I finally found a distro that fits great with me, I even love aptosid's default wallpaper theme - I'm a Scorpio... But... If anyone can shed some light, much much appreciated!

ipw2200 works fine for me and powersaving for wlan devices is globally disabled (due to issues in numerous drivers, basically all). Are you sure that the hardware is fine (wlan cards are easily prone to overheating)?

It works fine for me too - under windoze or puppy
Apparently, I'm not alone:

It looks like a firmware issue to me. Can anyone help? Thanks!

For those of you who might have the same issue: while not a real solution, it seems to work when I downgraded the firmware back to version 0.28 (firmware-ipw2x00_0.28_all.deb)

That is simply not possible:
      Code:
045a46163341514ef17490c76bd0c858 *firmware-ipw2x00_0.28/lib/firmware/ipw2200-bss.fw
44cdedc8d5a0eb727466ed982db97a53 *firmware-ipw2x00_0.28/lib/firmware/ipw2200-ibss.fw
ebc70dce66f876695fa8852b8ff757ee *firmware-ipw2x00_0.28/lib/firmware/ipw2200-sniffer.fw
      Code:

045a46163341514ef17490c76bd0c858 *firmware-ipw2x00_0.33/lib/firmware/ipw2200-bss.fw
44cdedc8d5a0eb727466ed982db97a53 *firmware-ipw2x00_0.33/lib/firmware/ipw2200-ibss.fw
ebc70dce66f876695fa8852b8ff757ee *firmware-ipw2x00_0.33/lib/firmware/ipw2200-sniffer.fw
Intel has abandoned ipw2100/ ipw2200 long time ago and the firmware didn't change/ update in years.

OK, maybe it was just my illusion, as the disconnecting is random after all. But, is there anyone competent enough to share a REAL solution - instead of just proving me wrong? Why do I have a feeling that the next posting is going to question me whether I plugged my computer in?!

There won't be any solution, as long as there is no problem[1].

[1] e.g. either I can reproduce it - and my own ipw2200 still works great and is used basically daily - or if you can provide some error messages or real debugging. Unfortunately "keeps disconnecting when it's idling and will not reconnect without a reboot" does not point into any direction, even less if two others don't observe that problem.
The whole essence of fixing a bug, is understanding what is broken - and the key point to understanding that is finding a lever to reproduce it (or at least to pinpoint its general location through error messages).

'No problem' eh? (What did I just say about 'plugging in'? Wink)
Try telling these folks about it:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-819782.html

If there was 'no problem' or I knew what to do about it, why would I come here for help?? FYI, ipw2200 works fine under Puppy Linux or Windows on the same machine -- Reason why I came here to look for solution because it only happens when I use aptosid!

I sincerely hope you can do better than just being defensive and denying problems!

The sheer fact that this topic has had the highest number of 'Views' (380+) for the past few days shows it's a common problem! Why don't you pull your head out of the sand and start looking for a solution for the problem? Come on now, you can do it! Wink

nahn, if your intention was to motivate a developer to work gratis for you, you definitely found the wrong tone.
Greetings,
Chris

Work gratis for me!? Did I coerce him to work for aptosid? I asked a very respectful question in my first post and hoped you guys could share some expert advice. Yet, I got nothing but doubts if I actually had problems, and attempts to prove me wrong - I find that insulting. This kind of behavior is neither good for the image of aptosid, nor healthy for the future of that developer in question. Just because you are a volunteer, therefore, you are entitled to be unprofessional?

slh don't "work" for aptosid, he is the founder. (along with others)

First of all, lets get back to that gentoo post shall we

Very interesting indeed

(by the way, which post is yours, what, you didn't post the same post there as here, and accuse and repeat the shit there as here with the devs)

The reason is clear as to a high view count

YOUR TONE SUCKS

I personally find it amusing you bring up a gentoo post over a year old

Have you done a search on this forum for intel ipw2200 and people that have problems with it

Here, let me help you

http://aptosid.com/index.php?name=PNphp ... de=results

That is typing in forum search problems with intel ipw2200

This kind of behavior is neither good for the image of Linux or Windows, nor healthy for the future of you getting help on this forum or other forums in question. Just because you are a user, therefore, you are entitled to be unprofessional in the answers you didn't like?

If this is a firmware issue, why are you taking it out on the devs or aptosid period ?
