I wrote CJK language support wiki.
Chinese support (English text)
http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=wik ... eseSupport
Japanese support (Japanese + English text)
http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=wik ... eseSupport
Korean support (English text)
http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=wik ... eanSupport
Vietnamese support (English text)
http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=wik ... eseSupport
compared to former sidux wiki's content:
I have simplifeid the text.
(because setting up IBUS for input method is simpler than SCIM)
and I have removed about localization of IceWeasel and OpenOffice.
(localization package can be easily found with apt-cache search.
Or if you start from KDE-full DVD with live-apt, they should be already installed)
For Japanese, short summary and link to wiki page are already in the manual.
the last section of http://manual.aptosid.com/ja/wel-quicks ... come-quick
Korean & Chinese scripts are not well tested. Volunteers to test/report, edit, translate the wiki page are very wellcome.
Well, Japanese scripts also need more testing... I didn't test on newly installed aptosid-kde/xfce... sorry.
So far there is no aptosid support forum in Chinese/Japanese/Korean languages. Initiative to create them is very welcome, but please contact to sidux team before starting the homepage. |

I wrote Vietnamese entry, so title is changed from CJK to CJK-V.
For Vietnamese input, ibus-unikey is used.
I'm not sure if special font is neccessary. So fa, I found only xfonts-intl-asian.
Feedback wellcome.
Also, I wrote wiki page, for other languages.
Input method for various languages (m17n)

muchan,
For Vietnamese input, users should also install ibus-table-viqr
ibus-unikey, many times in my experience, breaks when ibus is upgraded.
The development in ibus-table seems consistent with ibus.
Some Vietnamese users in Windows tend to use certain proprietary fonts (like vni font) that are not available in Linux.
Users can download those from here http://fontchu.com/index.htm
and copy font files to the font folder. There are also many other CJKV fonts on that website.
Edit: ibus-unikey supports most, if not all, Vietnamese input methods; while ibus-table-viqr supports only viqr method.
But ibus-table-viqr supports all ibus features, like candidates orientation, while ibus-unikey doesn't.
My guess is that ibus-unikey uses ibus as a limited platform for its own self. That also explains the point earlier.
There is no need for
apt-get install ttf-alee ttf-baekmuk
in my experience to view Vietnamese text.
This will do
apt-get install im-switch ibus-unikey ibus-table-viqr ibus-qt4 (or ibus-gtk)
im-switch -s ibus
and restart x |

Thanks for the feedback. I'll add ibus-table-viqr.
ttf-alee and ttf-baekmuk are Korean font package, it's obviously my mistake
on Copy & Paste & Edit process.
One more question:
Does the font package xfonts-intl-asain is useful for Vietnamese? |

I don't have that xfonts-intl-asian package installed. It is not neccessary to view Vietnamese text.
Users only need extra fonts when they exchange office documents with Vietnamese people. Many Vietnamese people, businesses alike, like to have vni font as default in MS office. |

I removed xfonts-intl-asian from script page.
About proprietary fonts, I won't mention in wiki.
(Probably users know about it better than me! 8) |
