I did take a look to the BIOS of my Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 board. The only setting I could find regarding virtualisation was an item "Virtuality Technology" (IIRC) that is set to "enabled". I did not see something like "VT for direct IO".

The latest version of the kernel boots up without issue:

3.1-0.slh.2-aptosid-686

The latest kernel seems to have IOMMU disabled as I see this message:

      Code:

vboxpci: IOMMU not found (not registered)


Trying to boot with intel_iommu=on recreates the problem with 3.1-0.slh.1
