I had a timed out session today while writing a wiki article.

Could you disable such timeouts please?

It's quiet annoying to lose all the stuff you already wrote, because the back buttons of the browsers do not work in such case...

For now, I'd recommend pressing "Preview" button frequently,
maybe after writng each complete paragraph. It will keep you from timeout.

It's also a good idea to press "Store" often, and "edit page" again.
It's eqiovalent of saving file often while you're writing long text or code in editor software.

(Another trick is right click "Recent changes" or any other link inside the aptosid.com and open in new tab... to keep you from timeout...)

(Yet another trick is copy/paste all the editing text to other editor software, and edit off-line. when done, come on-line and paste the text. probably this is least frustrating...)

Tonight I have arranged the wiki Category entry pages, (slam has initiated the categpry entries). Then wrote the first version of How to write the new article.
http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=wik ... NewArticle

Now, I hope more users will start writing wiki pages.

I have just now rebuild the entire category system for the wiki, and fixed all pages to use it. Category pages and all links in there are created automaticly - see http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=wik ... rySysadmin ans an example. Please do not change those pages.

Make sure to add at the bottom of every page you create a link to at least one fitting category, that way it will turn up automaticly in the category overview pages. I have adapted the HowTos accordingly - please check: http://aptosid.com/index.php?module=wik ... NewArticle

So, we can put some formatting love now in all exisitng pages - and add new ones! Smile

Greetings,
Chris

All suggestions I read here are workaround for a simple to solve problem.

What are the disadvantages of disabling the timeout?
Someone who has physical access to my workstation can edit the wiki in my name?
Wow, that's too bad.

This is what screenlockers have been made for.

HennR, the wiki is just a small module, integrated in a bigger CMS system. Therefore, it follows the general security measures we have implemented. Thanks for understanding!
Said that, I have increased the session timeout from 20 to 60 minutes minutes of inactivity, and hope this is enough now.
Greetings,
Chris

Thanks slam, sounds like a workaround as well but anyway it's better than nothing.

Great would be if the wiki software would keep the content if session times out, and presents it to the user even if he is logged out, offers a relogin and presents the content when logged in again...

Instead I saw that pressing the back button leads to a redirect loop, wohoo Smile

I see CategoryHardwareEn and CategorySoftwareEn changed to
CategoryHardware and CategorySoftware. That is good.

While I understand that Category page is automatically genarated,
I feel missing the "entry page" for each category.
I wish (for example) language related pages are listed together,
not "automatically" put randomly (alphabetical order) with other kind of entries.

I'd propose we have two separate pages, automatically generated category page, (which is linked from Categories),
and entry page for each Table of content, to present the content in more humanly organized manner.

      Code:

wiki home page +--> categories +--> CategoryXX
                               +--> CategoryYY
+--> Table of contents +--> Table of Contants of CategoryXX
+--> Table of Contents of CategoryYY

Muchan, let's talk about customizing those category pages in IRC - there is a lot we can do, and still let the system do the automated stuff. The system also understands sub-categories, and several different options of sorting, etc.

Greetings,
Chris
