There is a locked thread about this and I don't really understand what happen there, maybe because my lack of understanding English.

Anyway I have a laptop which I and others only use for playing music and there I do want the auto login on boot and I have had it like that for a long time. I did a new installation on a new hard disk yesterday and found out that the gui for configure auto login is gone and then I found that weird thread I mention above.

I manage to get the auto login by configuring /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf like this
      Code:
[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable = true
AutomaticLogin = [my user name]
This is working fine for me

This is a security risk, but, each to his/her own, it's your machine

*this is not recommended/supported by aptosid
users have the freedom of their machines*

You are right piper but what can go wrong in this case, somebody brakes in to my house and steel my music files on the computer? Or maybe some one else force him/her in to my house and use my internet through the unprotected laptop, if anybody wants to use my internet there are many other ways to do that. A auto logged in computer used as a music machine is not much more unprotected than a normal CD-player with a unlocked box with music CD on the side.

Exactly, and being auto logged in ...

I am just looking out for newer users that don't know any better, and think this is normal. it is your machine
