Hello,

since Kernel 3.1 I can't use wake-on-lan anymore. Before it runs out of the box. I have no idea what happened except the kernel-update.

My nic is onboard

      Code:
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 03)

The nic works with module r8169.

ethtools says

      Code:
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP MII ]
        Supported link modes:   10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full
        Supported pause frame use: No
        Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
        Advertised link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                1000baseT/Half 1000baseT/Full
Advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only
        Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Link partner advertised link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                             100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                             1000baseT/Full
Link partner advertised pause frame use: No
        Link partner advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
        Speed: 1000Mb/s
        Duplex: Full
        Port: MII
        PHYAD: 0
        Transceiver: internal
        Auto-negotiation: on
        Supports Wake-on: pumbg
        Wake-on: g
        Current message level: 0x00000033 (51)
                               drv probe ifdown ifup
        Link detected: yes

I added the following line in /etc/default/halt without success:

      Code:
NETDOWN=no

I made successful a check with Squeeze on another partiton. WOL works there.

Any ideas?

There have been many WoL related changes between 3.0 and 3.1, changing and fixing behaviour for different r8169 (sub-) chipsets (there are 40+ covered by the same driver, but using different hardware). Regressions are still under discussion upstream, http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg176429.html ff.

Thank you for the information. Is there any chance to see the patch from Francois Romieu (http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg176508.html) in the Aptosid-Kernel?

That one already made it into the original 3.1, extending it to http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg178543.html is currently under investigation.

Yesterday I installed the latest aptosid-kernel

      Code:
orinoco@womble:~$ uname -a
Linux womble 3.1-0.slh.5-aptosid-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 3 20:08:31 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

But there was no progress with my issue. I did some more investigation and this output makes me wondering:

      Code:
orinoco@womble:~$ cat /proc/acpi/wakeup
Device  S-state   Status   Sysfs node
PCI0      S5    *disabled  no-bus:pci0000:00

PCEB      S4    *disabled
PCEC      S4    *disabled
PS2K      S5    *enabled   pnp:00:09

I can't see my network device here? I would expect it here.

The PS2K entry is my keyboard. And yes, I start my computer by pressing a key on my model-m.

As far as I understand the patches are made for the network module 'drivers/net/r8169.c'. Is it possible that acpi is a cause for my problem?

The problem with non-working wake-on-lan is still pending. Today I upgraded to kernel 3.2 (Linux jake 3.2-0.slh.1-aptosid-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 5 01:25:50 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux) with no success.

The manual said that the board is equiped with a RTL8111D chip.

Maybe somebody can confirm this behavior, to sort out a hardware-problem with my board.

Thanks in advance.

I too have problems with WOL.
With a PC 32 also works with the latest kernerl.
With the PC only with amd 64 kernel 2.6.
Can anyone tell me if there is a solution to the problem?
On the pc amd 64 I already installed the 2.6 kernel, so that is not reinstalled.
With a new PC you can install the kernel aptosid 2.6?

Thanks for your attention.

Hello.

P.S.: nic on PC AMD 64

      Code:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express
