I installed Ponos about a week ago and everything went well.
This morning I thought I'd upgrade and did a apt-get update followed by a dist-upgrade after doing an init 3.
There was an
Error! bad return status for module build on Kernel 3.2 etc.
and make.log has
configure: error: --with-linux argument '3.2-2.slh.2-aptosid-686' is neither a kernel version string not a full path.
How do I recover from this?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Here i have the same problem. To fix i remove the latest kernel and other packages like plymouth and initrafs-tools.
Quote:
apt-get purge initrafs-tools
After re-install the initramfs-tools and reinstall de latest kernel 3.2-2.slh.4 now everything it's ok here.
Sorry for some mistakes because i'm not a native english speaker. |

Hi Hiltongil:
Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately, when I try to remove the
kernel, there is the same error and the old kernel is removed. I tried to
remove the initramfs-tools package, bu the system first tries to remove the
3.2.2 kernel first. SO no luck. I am still with the 3.1.6 kernel of Ponos.
All attemps to purge or remove the offending kernel, which I think is 3.2-1.slh.2
have failed.
Thanks anyway.

humm here when i remove the package initramfs-tools the system tell me than the lest kernel would be remove and ask me if i want remove or not. Than i mark "no" after the initramfs-tools was removed. Maybe you should try reinstall the package with apt-get install --reinstall initramfs-tools or download the package from debian repositories and execute dpkg -i (package).
Your welcome.

could you post the output of infobash -v3?
anyway removing initramfs-tools is a *very, very bad* option!
The kernel needs it... unless you want to boot without any kernel.
Code:
root@comus:/home/x-un-i# apt-get purge -s initramfs-tools
Reading package lists... Done

Reading state information... Done

Hi x-un-i when i tell to remove the initranfs-tools, i want tell to first remove the package and after install again. Here i can't install the lastest kernel. Every time i received a message about errors. Infortunaly i wasn't save to post here. So i try to reinstall the initramfs-tools but the message persist. After i remove the package initramfs-tools with the command: apt-get purge initramfs-tools and the system ask me if i want remove the latest kernel, so i answer "no" the lastest kernel installed keep installed and the package initramfs-tools was removed. Them i reinstall the initramfs-tools with the command: apt-get install initramfs-tools, so the package was installed without problem. Them i run the command: apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade and them the last kernel was install without problems. Let me ask something more. You are from Brasil? I see the sentence: "Será que o diabo perdeu a virgindade?"
Best regards.

without knowing the message that you are getting, no one can help.
even if you are on init 3 ( Textconsole) you have the mouse activated ( gpm) unless you have deinstalled or deactivated it. then you can save the message through cut+paste into a file or send it into some pastebin ( using for instance aptosid-paste).
answering to the other question, i'm from the opposite side of the Atlantic |

There was an
Error! bad return status for module build on Kernel 3.2 etc.
and make.log has
configure: error: --with-linux argument Heelo x-u n-i:
I am now on 3.1.6 and I wouold like to build the latest, which is, I think
3.2.4 . The apt-get dist=upgrade has downloaded the 3.2.4 package, but has not
completely instlled it, because it gets bogged down with the error with the
3.2-2 kernel and calls the whole thing off. I would like really to get rid
of 3.2-2 altogether, but I am unable to remove it. I don't know how to proceed.
Thanks for any suggestions.

keeping the error messages secret does not help anyone specially yerself
you have been bitten by this bug
To fix it redo your grub devicemap
Code:
grub-mkdevicemap --no-floppy

Hi x-un-i:
grub-mkdevicemap --nof-floppy worked like a charm. everything seems OK now.
I presume your comment "keeping the error messages secret does not help anyone"
refers to the "configured not to write appports reports". I had nothing to do with
that. I installed aptosid directly from the iso, and did not do any configuring
of any file on my own. In any case, where and what do I do to correct this?
Thanks very much.
