today's dist-upgrade wants to remove libept1 and packagesearch .

libept1 is to be replaced with libept1.4.12 but packagesearch requires libept1.

Some advice please.............

Is this classed as a bug ?

in which package is the problem ?

does this need reporting ?

thanks

no its not a bug...its due to new apt version that's incompatible with packagesearch currently in Sid so you should wait for an updated version

It has been classed as a Release Critical bug at bugs.debian.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=669215

I think it will be fixed in a few weeks.

I just would not recommend installing anything critical with it.
Synaptic is good for looking up and finding out about software and the GUI is tempting because it is right there.
The problem with critical system installs is that you are running KDE and that can lead to issues unforeseen.

Maintenance for packagesearch is in such a shape that I'd (strongly) suggest to let it go, in favour of apt.

No real eta (anymore), but maybe end of this week or after he has removed certain functionality. The problem isn't the new apt version (it just is a visible indication), the package in its current form didn't build anymore since august last year. That's not acceptable.

See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=639076 for details.
