Hi
since upgrading to 3.6-1.slh.3-aptosid-amd64 from 3.5-3.slh.2-aptosid-amd64 i can't boot.
When the kernel tries to load the raid disks it crashes with an error.
when i dismount the satacontroller the system is starting.
In 3.5 this sata-device is controlled by pata_jmicron.
The controller is an LIAN LI IB-01 on an ASUS E45M1-I Board. I do not use the RAID Extensions.
As there is no serial port i can't attach a serial console for appending an output of the startup messages.
And yes i googled, but just found http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_3.6_DriverArch#head-70c80f1b1d3baa12c4c82115a373fc66d0ec0972 that's for JMB362 (other PCI ID).
Nonetheless i tried blacklisting pata_jmicron. No change.
So my questions are:
Has anything changed with the handling of the needed drivers (pata_acpi, ata_generic, pata_jmicron) like parameters, blacklisting ....?
Anybody else got the same problem and could solve it?
Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.
Wolf

We'd need the exact error/ crash message, take a photo if needed. |

Hi
found out that the SATA Part of this controller does not need pata-jmicron at all.
In kernel 3.5 if pata_jmicron is blacklisted and removed from initrd, anything works like always.
It could be that the problems are in ahci, libahci.
Regards
Wolfen

The weird aspect is that there has only been a single, apparently correct, change to pata_jmicron between kernel 3.5 and 3.6. Just to confirm that this particular patch is correct, please test this test kernel http://aptosid.com/slh/pata_jmicron/ and the current one available through apt. If this change is the culprit, getting it fixed would be trivial - if it's not, finding the actual cause is significantly harder. |

same as before either with the test kernel and with 3.6-3.slh.1
seems to be while loading scsi, sata, raid modules
any suggestions to get the kernel output (usb device etc. , i'd buy no problem)
i'd take some of my time and assist you in finding this bug
thanks for your hard work till late in the night |
