Latest apt-get dist-upgrade is telling me
      Code:
Retrieving bug reports... Done
Parsing Found/Fixed information... Done
critical bugs of procps (1:3.3.3-2 -> 1:3.3.4-1) <unfixed>
 #692063 - [procps] Unflagged Dependency Can Leave Disabled System
critical bugs of ifupdown (0.7.2 -> 0.7.4) <unfixed>
 #692110 - [ifupdown] ifupdown renders system unbootable
critical bugs of procps (1:3.3.3-2 -> 1:3.3.4-1) <tagged>
 #691847 - procps: ps ax crashes, random badness if libprocps0 not upgraded too
Summary:
 procps(2 bugs), ifupdown(1 bug)
Are you sure you want to install/upgrade the above packages? [Y/n/?/...]

Seems to me the answer to the question is, "no". Anyone else?

according to this bug report it is fixed in the latest version (0.7.5)

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=692110

It shows the updated package is ready for update.

      Code:
apt-cache policy ifupdown
ifupdown:
  Installed: 0.7.2
  Candidate: 0.7.5
  Version table:
     0.7.5 0
        500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sid/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
 *** 0.7.2 0
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I have not updated to this version yet though.

D-U proceeded smoothly for me on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems, upgrading ifupdown from versions 0.7.3 and 0.7.4 to 0.7.5.
