I am having a problem with hangups during booting, and no audio once booting is complete. Kernel 3.9.1-amd64 works normally, but the later 3.9 kernels (I have 3.9-7.slh.3-aptosid-amd64) on my system, and 3.10-0.slh.1-aptosid-amd64 do not work properly.

1. During boot, the system hangs for approx. 60 seconds after loading the nouveau drivers (the display works properly). The last message I get before the hang is:
[ 8.294130] [drm] Initialized nouveau 1.1.1 20120801 for 0000:01:00.0 on minor 0
Then it hangs for about 60 seconds, followed by:
--------------------------------
udevd[611] timeout: killing '/sbin/mobprobe -b pci:v000010DEd0000026Csu000001828sd00000Z49bc04sc03i00' [622]

udevd[611]: '/sbin/mobprobe -b pci:v000010DEd0000026Csu000001828sd00000Z49bc04sc03i00' [622] terminated by signal 9 (Killed)

udevd[567] timeout: killing '/sbin/mobprobe -b pci:v0000110Zd00000005sv00001102sd0000600Zbc04sc03i00' [809]

udevd[567]: '/sbin/mobprobe -b pci:v0000110Zd00000005sv00001102sd0000600Zbc04sc03i00' [809] terminated by signal 9 (killed)

done.
-------------------------------
then booting continues.

2. The snd-hda-intel module does not show up anywhere in dmesg, (it is there with the 3.9.1 kernel).

3. Once booting is complete, there is no audio, lsmod does not show snd-hda-intel present, and phonon (I am using kde) tells me that "The ausio playback device HDA NVIDIA (ALC 1200 Analog) does not work Falling back to default." lspci shows that the sound device is present and has been detected. alsactl reports no soundcards found.

4. If I manually load snd-had-intel with 'modprobe -i snd-hda-intel', it does load, and audio works, though it seems some applications (like kde system notifications) have no audio output. The test in phonon configuration does work, and after loading snd-hda-intel, the soundcard shows up in the configuration screen.

5. I have removed oss-compat (and everything it took with it), this made no difference, problems remain as before.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks for your reply.

I read that link, and as I mentioned in my post, removed oss-compat. It did not solve the problem, no change at all.

Did I miss something?

Have you "removed" or "purged" it? That might be a difference…
(remove doesn't remove configuration and the stuff causing the problem with oss-compat for some counts as configuration)

apt-get purge oss-compat

Thought I had "purged", but maybe not.
Reinstalled oss-compat, then did the delete --purge, and now it works.
Thanks for the help.
