Subject: Do not d-u, Perl transition wants to remove KDE and xserver {fixed}
Edit at 31-08-2013 1135 UTC:
Apart from xserver-xorg-core being automatically held, it should be safe to dist-upgrade

Perl is in transition and wants to remove KDE and xserver and it is a huge transition and goes down 6 levels.
http://release.debian.org/transitions/h ... l5.18.html
We strongly recommend that you do not go near a dist-upgrade for a few days. |

It's by far not finished, but the most critical set of perl libraries has been transitioned by now. This means even though many (more) leaf packages are still affected, a basic desktop may survive an upgrade already. So you have to remain very careful for the time being and check if apt wants to remove a package you may need, but it probably won't burn your kingdom anymore. |

Being careful and observant I did a d-u and it was successful as well.
Nothing removed that was not being replaced with a newer package. |

Successful here as well. As usual, I sat on my hands while I read everything. |

On that Debian.org webpage I see subversion still red for amd64. That means I should wait if I use subversion, right? |

subversion itself is "fine", the problem is git-svn (and libsvn-perl which belongs to subversion), so its only a problem for those folks which use git locally to talk to a subversion repository (like I do to be able to do stuff while being offline on the train)…
Looking at the RC-bugcount of subversion (6 !) I guess this can take a while until its resolved. :/ |
