I found on a old CD a single file, which I created years ago with Speedcommander.
The Story:
I had a huge mpg2-File (something from my TVcard) and packed it into a selfextraction exe (internally its a zip!) - The selfextractingfile was automatically seperated in 2 parts, so that it would fit on two CDs
The problem is, that I long ago extractet the first part, and now rediscovered the second one, but I do not have the original packed first part.
In short
TVfile 1200MB -> 2 CDs:
a) Part 1.exe
b) part 2.ex2
How can I get the date of the second file? Is there any Chance to get it? |

1st Solution:
1. Install wine
2. Copy both files onto your HD in one folder
3. Execute the self-extracting file (should be possible with wine).
2nd solution:
Some archive managers, like 7zip, are able to detect archives, even if they are hidden behind executable wrappers like a self-extraction tool.
You can try to unpack the second file (if it was parted so, that it can be opened seperatly) with unzip. |

It seems, that the first file is lost, so I will try the second way...
Do you refer to the commandlineversion (p7zip) of 7zip? |

| No, i've meant 7Zip for Windows including the GUI, but I think you can use p7zip,too. |

Ah... right!
Just have forgotten, that those executables are most of the time cabinet files. Thanks slam! I think that cabextract (maybe non-free) should work. If that doesn't work, it could be a rar (extract it with unrar - non-free) or another archive (p7zip).
EDIT: But wait... I think in your case you just need unzip or p7zip if you are really sure that it's internally a zip. |

So, I tried some options:
decoing under wine went well, but the file has one error, so the concert seems to have the right sound, but bad video (blury mpg)
I tried cabextract, but that doesn't work:
Quote:
cabextract teil2pva.exe
> teil2pva.exe: library not compiled to support large files.
> teil2pva.exe: no valid cabinets found

i found another solution. thanks.
I think the problem was, that just in the moment, were the files were seperated, the trasnmission had some failurs (digital sat-artefacts). SO i rpaired the stream with project X, and now ist playing fine
Thanks for everybody helping! |
