Under aptosid, I'm trying to figure out the
recommended way to put a .ISO file (containing an OS)
onto a flash-drive and be bootable.
[I did a few searches in forum/wiki, and there was
only ONE mention of the 'unetbootin' tool and
that says that unetbootin doesn't work reliably.]
So, is there a writeup somewhere of some OTHER
tool(s) and/or steps to accomplish this, under aptosid?
TIA...

Hmmm...I didn't try those instructions for the aptosid/sidux
ISO, because that isn't my 'target', but when I try them
for some other Linux-distros ISO [e.g. MEPIS's], it
doesn't produce anything useable.
[It DOES run for the expected duration (a minute or so],
without any visible error.
But, if I examine the resulting flash-drive with 'gparted',
it appears empty.
And, if I boot the resulting flash-drive, it skips right over
the flash-drive, and boots the next thing in my BIOS's list.
[And, I KNOW that this laptop will boot a VALID bootable flash-drive.]
So, there must be 'restrictions' on the generality of those
instructions? |

well, these instructions work for us. cat/dd will only work with isos using syslinux.
iso-to-usb might or might not work for other distros.
fur ubuntu and others, unetbootin is fine, and there is other ways for even other distros.

Ahh...THANKS for that, Devil. That caveat/rule about 'syslinux' might
be what's going on. |
