hi all, i wanted to do some light video editing. can anyone suggest a setup that they are actually using and know works?
i usually use a kde desktop, but i am willing to set up a gtk based system (lxde?) if that is necessary.
the last time i tried to use openshot it didn't seem to interface with the kde very well, and after doing my edits nothing would render. do i need to use a different desktop with openshot?
kdenlive won't render for me right now either. do you think i'm doing something wrong, or is it the available version of melt that is causing the problems?
any suggestions and advice are appreciated.
i am happy to do plenty of studying, i just want to study a setup that i know will eventually work for me.
thank you so much, ike. |

| kdenlive is working fine here. Can you explain "kdenlive won't render for me right now either"? |

thanks blackhole for the prompt response. it is good to know kdenlive is working for you. before i bother you with specifics about the rendering, i want to make sure i have the correct pieces. what was worrying me was the kdenlive website saying "MLT framework version 0.5.10 is required".
here is what i have, all from debian repositories:
Code:
apt-cache policy melt kdenlive ffmpeg
ffmpeg:
Installed: 4:0.5.2-6
Candidate: 4:0.5.2-6
Version table:
*** 4:0.5.2-6 0
500 http://ftp.at.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
kdenlive:
Installed: 0.7.8-1
Candidate: 0.7.8-1
Version table:
*** 0.7.8-1 0
500 http://ftp.at.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
melt:
Installed: 0.5.6+git20100727-1
Candidate: 0.5.6+git20100727-1
Version table:
*** 0.5.6+git20100727-1 0
500 http://ftp.at.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
thanks for the advice.
@xweber: thanks for the suggestion. i'll take a look at blender also.
all the best, ike. |

I think that kdenlive from debian repositories is partially broken. I know that the other repository is not supported by aptosid, but you can temporarily enable it:
Quote:
apt-cache policy melt kdenlive ffmpeg
ffmpeg:
Installed: 5:0.6~svn20100726-0.1
Candidate: 5:0.6~svn20100726-0.1
Version table:
*** 5:0.6~svn20100726-0.1 0
500 **removed**/ sid/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
4:0.6-2 0
1 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ experimental/main i386 Packages
4:0.5.2-6 0
500 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ sid/main i386 Packages
kdenlive:
Installed: 0.7.8-1
Candidate: 0.7.8-1
Version table:
*** 0.7.8-1 0
500 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ sid/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
melt:
Installed: 1:0.5.10-0.1
Candidate: 1:0.5.10-0.1
Version table:
