The KDE 4.5.3 is released! Kde is evolving a lot in their development. Is It already available for the aptosid to upgrade?

And even there it's still 4.5.1. As there is only one guy for packaging (well, i don't know if there are more by now, it was one in 4.5.1 times), it could take a while for 4.5.3 to arrive in that repo. IF it will be packed! |

| That's the one thing that annoys me about Sid: in freeze time you might have to wait for a KDE related fix up to half a year... |

yepp... I think its the backside of the shining medal... in sid digicam is on 1.2 - meanwhile the team released 1.5 (!) (btw: is there any way to get it from a repo?)
But the freeze has also one big advantage... we have few computerproblems right now!
Are there any rumours regarding the progress of finishing squeeze? |

You can get digikam 1.4 from http://people.debian.org/~msp/ if you like. |

1. You have to install these packages with dpkg.
2. I don't know, I have installed kde 4.5.1 with kdelibs 4.5.2 and libdbus-1-3 from experimental repo. Runs without any problems. |

I think freeze ends when winter is over, so in estimate an half year here . (The real "freeze" hasn't begone already, so winter has to begin first before it can end - sounds logically)
Oh, oh! Freeze ending at christmas would be nice! |

i try to follow how kde and qt are managed in debian with debian's mailing lists, personal blogs, forums and so on. In the last few weeks i could see anything about kde 4.5 status in debian. If you look at kde changelog you'll see that there is no huge improvements in last minor releases. Qt version is stuck in experimental at 4.7 rc1 (!!!) and we have not a single new from packagers (do you remember ana's blog?). Coding is hard, comminicating is even harder but necessary! It is not enaugh to write "wait till debian release" the world outside evolves...
don't kill me for this thought. |

in the case of ana: she was heavily involved in debconf10 and its organisation. she announced she would not be doing much for months after the event. (on IRC)

| she was just one of the most communicative of debian packagers. I really miss her efforts. Does anybody know if debian-kde-qt project has a lack of manpower or if kde4.5 has some blocks to hit experimental, or so on? |

debian-kde-qt has a lack of manpower. also work is being dedicated to 4.4.x to go into Squeeze.
