Not expecting support, but warning others: iceweasel 4.0~b5-1 (from http://mozilla.debian.net/packages/) freezes after start up in my system (or perform *very* slowly -- chromium is fine), even in safe-mode. I am not sure if it is a bug or something wrong with my system. It came with my last DU (with the above repository enabled).

Here is some info:

      Code:

just installed iceweasel 4.0~b5-1. from 4.0~b4. i had ~ 15 tabs open before the install. it took quite long to open these, (like almost 5 minutes) after that all is fine, very responsive. maybe your profile is bugged somehow.

You're right, a different profile has no problems at all... I guess I need to start hunting the problem. Funny that it is not an extension, as -safe-mode disables them all...

Hmmm... I had changed a setting to allow "incompatible" extensions (like this http://www.siliconchaos.com/2010/07/firefox-4-beta-1-installing-non-compatible-extensions/), but the variable is not there anymore to remove it.

Oh, well, I knew it was risky...

Thanks,

Luis

Looks like for FF 4.0 you might need to rebuild your profiles due to the internal changes within the browser code. Usually with major FF upgrades it is recommended by Mozilla to recreate your profiles to avoid problems

I don't know what happened when I tested with a different profile that made me think it was fine. I created a new profile for myself and it had the same problems. Then I tested the profile I thought was fine again and it was also bad. I also found out that the settings that I had changed was not in my laptop, but in my work computer, running Fedora (running Minefield from Mozilla's web site), so it was not the problem (and that was why I could not find it).

BTW, the nightly build from Mozilla's site works just fine in my laptop...

In a fresh install at home (64 bit desktop) I tried iceweasel 4 beta again and had exactly the same problems, perhaps a bit better. In this case I just downgraded to sid's official version, which runs very smoothly... Funny that I am the only one with this problem...

Thanks for your help,

Luis

For whatever is worth, the new version (4.0~b7-2) works great again...
