Should I install this package, it is in the reps and the Intel site say updates are available for the i3 cpu . I don't recall it ever being mentioned in the forum or in the manual. |

Code:
$ apt-cache show intel-microcode
Package: intel-microcode
[…]
Description: Processor microcode data file for Intel CPUs
The microcode data file for Linux contains the latest microcode
definitions for all Intel processors. Intel releases microcode
updates to correct processor behavior as documented in the
respective processor specification updates. While the regular
approach to getting this microcode update is via a BIOS upgrade,
Intel realizes that this is an administrative hassle; the Linux
Operating System has a mechanism to update the microcode after
booting the OS.
.
This package contains only the microcode, so it needs the loader
provided in the package microcode.ctl
So: Yes, for all intel cpu - it can't hurt… |

Redirect your complains to Intel, as that is non-free software and aptosid doesn't support non-free stuff official (as we can't fix the source without a source). |

I know it's non-free, but this package might be one to include on install or at least mention during the install process for those using intel hardware. |

I am not sure if fw-detect does show it. ( if not, i assume patches are welcomed )
After all, you can survive without this package installed, so its not a "must have" - just imagine these lonely kfreebsd-people or even these windows people without microcode loading at runtime… |
