Hello everyone,
I found on the net a nice word processor called FocusWriter and I'd like to install it on my aptosid, but the only package that I could use was Ubuntu's or compiling the source. I choosed the source, but I can't compile it because of some errors. I looked on the net and found out that there's a git repo for the debian version, that is https://github.com/barak/focuswriter.
Can you explain me how to install it? Never installed anything from git Sad
THanks in advance for the help!

would you mind posting your errors before venturing into even more strange lands?
i guess you are just missing a few build depends.

I visited the homepage of focuswriter (for curiosity) and I'm sure I saw this before...
and I found I saw it in ITP in debian-dev, the packages wanting to enter Debian repo,
that is:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=580763
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/20 ... 00177.html

it means someone has already packaged it for debian... (even if it is not yet accepted)
you may send a email to Tang Ke (E-mail address in the last link)
asking where you can get the package.

Thank you towo. And I've installed it to try. I kind of like it...

for tiwiz, now you can install it from towo's repo:
as root
1) create file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/frikelplatz.list with line
      Code:

deb http://frickelplatz.de/debian/ sid main

and
2) apt-get update
apt-get install focuswriter

I posted a link to focuswriter at a forum and had a really mixed set of reactions. About half were mildly interested, a few quite interested and then there was another very vocal group that were really "up in arms" that

a) well... if you make MS word fullscreen and minimize tool bars/ribbon it is almost like this so why waste time on it.
b) it doesn't save in a word friendly format... (how many times have Linux people heard that! Sad )

I went to the trouble to remind them of what .rtf was/is/can still do and these folks just couldn't understand..

really strange.

I reiterated that it is intended to be what we were all told about when we were taking "writing" in high school...a "blank page"... upon which one can create.

The first two groups chimed in to agree but the others just "couldn't see it".

When I mentioned that I was using it in "Linux" one guy became really derisive saying stuff like: OH! you people understand all that technical coding stuff!

I WISH! lol, I'm a GUI guy!

Anyway, it was a rather surprising bunch of replies from the one group.

However, I think that the others really tried taking a second look at it.

Thanks again for the link, I've installed it and am going to try it out.

I liked the feeling of writing "focused" using this software, but later I discovered,
that using just vim on well configured X terminal has about the same effect. Cool

(Well, the difference is, with focuswriter UserInterface is a mouse's move away,
while with vim, UI is in your head...)
