Hi guys,
can anyone recommend a graphic card that plays nice with aptosid and has "good" 3D performance?
I'd like to play stuff like alien arena with a 1680x1050 resolution and full details.
Thanks for any tips. |

What is broken?
fglrx from experimntal should work relative good, if we can say good in one line with fglrx. |

Programs seg fault or show black screens with the fglrx driver and my card (Radeon HD 4670).
Come on towo, we have a different thread for this and you ran out of ideas as well, didn't you?
I really appreciate your help but this card sucks so bad...
I tried several distros and none could get this card to work properly. |

I would suspect, your card has a hardware fault. |

Nvidia nuff said .... never had a problem, ran ati till the 9800 pro died, fglrx works, but breaks often, yes ati and intel are more open source friendly, but ... not ready for primetime, especially if a gamer (linux gaming)
I know I will hit flak with this post, but IMHO nvidia is king in video cards in linux (windows also)

i've been very very happy with my ati 4670 card. as towol says, have you ever gotten your card to work with ANY operating system? there are several other users active on this and the german forum that run this same card. . . in fact, that they had it already running properly is why i bought mine. . . and i've been very happy.
maybe you do have a bad card.
ike.
ps kde now gives me a seperate temp for my graphics card, and with my Gigabyte motherboard it is easy to overclock. i couldn't be happier.
pps i've got an HIS card with 1G of ddr3
i just don't like invidia's attitude. . . though i admit that if the promised LG android phone comes out with a dualcore tegra (nvidia) chip, i'll give them some of my money. |

Finally I did it: I installed Windows 7.
The card works flawless under windows, so there is no hardware fault.
I bought an ATI/AMD card because of the good FOSS drivers and was bitterly disapointed
I ordered an Nvidia 8800GTS now, let's see if I have more success with it. |

I guess you get the idea ....
I have a 7900GS and an 8400GT (in another machine) and they rock on both Windows and Linux
Nouveau looks promising and hopefully this driver can be made to work well as a good alternative to "the blob"
ATI's OSS driver is nearly there but not quite ready yet for primetime. My IBM T42 laptop has the Radeon Mobility 7500 which is too old for fglrx so have to use the radeon driver and it's pretty choppy.
I know ATI is trying but they can only do so much as I am sure some of their IP is not even owned by them. |

Did you get a good deal on a used one? Why would you even bother with a relatively older card when you can get a Geforce GTX 460? |
