System settings doesn't give me a root option to set autologin.
From konsole what do I need to run as root to do this?
I have tried various combinations of the words System Settings but I don't have the right command

If you mean automatically login on X as root, it's strongly recommended against.
To autologin as user (not root), in general, you need to edit the config file of session managers you use, (like kdm, gdm, etc.)
maybe KDE has GUI frontend to edit it... but I don't know much about KDE.
