I did a review of Sidux not too long ago as well. Glad to see it's still around by one name or another; keep up the good work.
chris_f,
Great mini-review.
cheers.

In your review in the last text about aptosid and rolling-release you wrote that the upgrade shall be done with sudo ...... That's not correct, sudo shall not be used and is not even enabled by default on a hard disk installation. |

And to avoid any further speculations about our release names: They have no relation at all to whatever happens/will happen in our project. We picked them simply because we had to pick something. Greek gods are fortunately enough there to release for several years, they are free of copyright and trade mark restrictions, and are a good test for non-latin character sets - even when used in scripts. So, they are just names - no further meaning is intended by us.
Greetings,

| Nice seeing this mini review and hopefully you'd do a fuller review if you ever have a chance to do so. |

I instantly remember the KDE3 to 4 convert program: 'kaboom'
The meaning of 'maverick' is also not all-positive (and watching the narwal song kills all nicety of the next one, too) and i don't even want to think about 'squeeze' - a small army of aliens willing to conquer the world! - or 'wheezy' with his wheezy voice, which is such a bad toy that Andy wants to sold him two times! (one time unsuccessfully in the plot of toy story 2 and toy story 3 spoils that he was sold on second try)
You can't name every release 'buzz' (i hope you all had a close look at his chin!) and as in real world not everything is always nice, why should be every release name nice? In the end, its a fun point for the developers and as its noted in the review: Where can you get a cool distro and learn some facts about history at the same time? |

I'm also of the opinion that the artwork that goes into Sidux/Aptosid is just cool.

the dark themes of keres were appropriate for the time (Keres, the personification of carnage and violent death). but it's nice to put those times behind us and continue on into a more colorful future... and i like red.

I really like the new wallpaper of apate, too.
I like these patterns and structures that are in the backround and in the text "aptosid : Apate" - everytime there is something new and creative.
But the claws in the bootscreen have a too high contrast to the backround for me, which also has too less effects for me. But the backround effects in the "dialog" box are nice. |

aptosid, as I always have said for sidux, is both seductive and addictive.
Great manual, great forums, great developers. Great distro.
Never tried another distro, 3 years gone now.
EDIT: In the review I could not post as I am not registered.
I wanted to write this comment:
Quote:
sidux is with lower-case 's', aptosid with lower-case 'a', there is or never was any AptoSidux.
'sudo' is not available by default in aptosid and was not in sidux and is not recommended.
If you are a bit careful about the dist-upgrades, understand it and do it the right way, like me you will never have a crash.
Have a nice day.
