Since KDE 4.4 I can use old distribution lists but newly created are blank in kmail (they look fine in kontact).

Instead of sending a mail to the recipients of the distribution list it sends a mail to a mail to a nonsense address <name_of_distributionlist>@<local_hostname>, e.g. kollegues@aptosidbox.

No improvement with KDE 4.5.

This becomes to be a showstopper. One hour looking around in various forums just showed people complaining, no one has come up with a solution.

Maybe here at aptosid are the ones who know Wink

Well ... hmmm ... I found that:
      Quote:
Kmail and kaddressbook are in a difficult position for 4.4. kaddressbook
has been converted over to the new akonadi framework, while kmail has not
yet been. The kmail akonadi switch was originally targeted at 4.5, which
would have been assumed to be 4.5.0, but the kdepim folks (rightly, IMO)
don't want to be responsible for another kde 4.0 level mess, so have been
quite cautious about releasing code that they don't believe is ready for
mass usage, and have decided the kmail akonadi code isn't likely to be
ready for 4.5.0, so they're planning on switching with 4.5.1, roughly a
month later, as of the last kdeplanet blog information I had (I haven't
read today's kdeplanet feed yet).

http://www.spinics.net/lists/kde/msg17422.html

Funny: it's the third Debian Stable release which will have broken features which I use regularily.

Etch: Nikon Raw Format broken in digikam/showfoto (showstopper)
Lenny: no Wikipedia connection in amarok
Squeeze: distribution lists more or less broken in kmail (showstopper)

Do I have to say, I don't like stable releases? Wink

Now I have found the solution. After the upgrade to KDE 4.4 akonadi, nepomuk, and dbus do not work together properly, one has to rebuild the index database from scratch.

You can check the problem with the little tool "akonadiconsole".

Prerequisite:
      Code:
apt-get update && apt-get install kdepim
Make sure Nepomuk is activated (systemsettings - KDE ressources) and quit kontact.

As user do:
      Code:
akonadictl stop
qdbus org.kde.NepomukServer /nepomukserver quit
kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
rm ~/.kde/share/apps/nepomuk/repository/main/data/virtuosobackend/*
nepomukservicestub nepomukstorage
Leave that shell open, and open a new one:
      Code:
akonadictl start
The index is rebuilt (takes a bit of time, use htop to check when it is finished).

The created distribution lists (distribution groups) are now correctly read by kmail.

Thanks and credits to Socceroos
