Hi, i noticed today that the system has a very high value of used memory (checked with system monitor), about 1GB with only iceweasel, skype and okular opened, the major responsible for this seems to be xorg, which uses 500MB of memory. At the first time i thought this was related to firefox 4 beta and flash (i downloaded the tar.gz from mozillas' site), now i have removed firefox 4 and restarted the system, the problem is still there. Does someone know the possible cause of the leak?

p.s. my system is 64 bit, the kernel is 2.6.37 slh 6.

Hi. My system ia 32 bit, 1.6 Ghz, 1 gig ram. With iceweasel and okular opem (i don't have skype) zorg is at 44.1 Mb, total memory used is 211.6 Mb. This probably don't mean much as yoy are usibg 64 bit on different hardware. You might close apps one at a time and see what happens.

I noticed that closing okular xorg's memory usage lowered to 350MB, now (after a reboot) i'm trying to reproduce the leak, in this moment i have only iceweasel and skype opened, xorg has only 28MB of memory.

My hardware is Asus M4A78T-E motherboard, amd phenomII x4, 4GB of ram and nVidia 8800gt graphic card, i had a similar problem a year ago with the Ati hd3300 integrated graphic adapter but it was solved with the nVidia.

Could it possibly be a 64 bit problem?

I have a 64 bit capable system, yet only chose a 32 bit install.

However, with iceweasel 4.0 Beta 9, Kontact, Kopete & Okular open Xorg is using 52.4 Mb (total) 3.6 Mb (shared) according to System Monitor.

Which kernel would I need to install for 64 bit (Intel)?

Perhaps I could see if memory usage increases then?

P.S. I've installed iceweasel 4.0 Beta from http://mozilla.debian.net/

64bit do ever need more ram than 32bit.

Iceweasel-2 tabs, chromium 5 tabs, okular.

497 MB on 64 bit. XORG 81.4 MB.
