Hello!
I have an old laptop with Pentium 1500 MHz and 1.5 GB of RAM.
I've replaced broken old disk with new 250 GB IDE disk.
Unfortunately it was not recognized by BIOS so I installed
Ontrack Kroll Disk Manager (Dynamic Drive Overlay V9.88)
http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com/hard ... nager.aspx
I've installed both XP.SP3 and Vista SP2 and both are
working OK (dual boot).
Then I wanted to install latest aptosid but the laptop
just reset (no message displayed). If I skipped loading
dynamic drive overlay (DDO), the Live DVD started, but
disk was not recognized in full size. :(
I tried with another distribution (Kanotix Excalibur), but
no success. Fortunately this time laptop displayed the
following message:
Code:
ISOLINUX 3.86 debian-20100430 ETCDisolinux: Found something at drive = FF
isolinux: Looks reasonable, continuining...
isolinux: Disk error 01, AX = 422B, drive FF
I've found some info about disk geometry here:
http://techpubs.sgi.com/library/tpl/cgi ... HOWTO.html
and it seems that support for automatic disk manager
was removed in kernel 2.5.70. :(
Code:
In 2.5.70 the automatic disk manager support was removed.
Instead, two boot options were added: "hda=remap" to do the EZ-
Drive remapping of sector 0 to sector 1, and "hda=remap63" to
do the OnTrack Disk Manager shift over 63 sectors.
BTW, I've downloaded Slackware 11 which is on kernel 2.4 and
tried again but still no success. :(
Is is possible to install aptosid on disk with Ontrack Disk Manager?
Maybe by changing some .cfg files on DVD?
Or I would need to recompile kernel with support for DDO?
Thanks, Roman |
