From what I can see from that report that bug was due to an old-school XF86Config-4 that probably got carried along from old debian installs. Something like this can bite when using obsolete config files.
So isn't it a good idea to kick that file if you have it and create an xorg.conf according to the manual? |

Before kicking I would move it and see if things work perfectly without it. If yes: procede.
That's my usual way of moving forward.

makes sense hubi
rename the file then make an xorg.conf using the instructions in the manual then test. If all's good then the XF86Config-4 can be kicked.
Perhaps reinstalling the nvidia driver uing instructions in the manual can create a proper xorg.conf the nvidia driver can be happy with. |

There was never a XF86Config-4 in sidux or aptosid.
The new xserver will not parse /etc/X11/xorg.conf anymore. |

Doesn't add up unless you made a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf file. Do I misunderstand things? |

I happen to have the Nvidia mods as an auto running mod tool for the video drivers... I use Google Earth a lot and need the faster video in 64 bit.
I think I need to look into what the ramifications are as I would rather not fubar the currently well running system.
