I'm in the middle of rebuilding aptosid kernel to remove a patch that renders my laptop unusable as a laptop. While at it, I wrote a draft for a tutorial on how to recompile an aptosid kernel for the wiki.

As it is my first attempt at compiling a kernel, it would be wise to have this document proofread by someone competent.

The actual document can be found here.

if you compile the kernel yourself, the resulting kernel should not be *.slh.*-aptosid*.
Use your name to avoid confusion.

Will now all aptosid users with a notebook with an intel video chipset have to compile their own kernels because of that patch?

The solution for those affected is to join the already existing bug report at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31803 and confirm the problems. This is the only way to get the problem fixed.
Greetings,
Chris
