hello

for a few days im using ssh inside my wlan at home to remotely connect to my laptop and my mythtv-machine (performing updates from commandline and stuff)

now my question:

is it necessary to use special passwords?
do i have to take special security measures?

thanks

You might consult our manual.

The manual miss a important thing. Keys instead of passwords. There are many manuals availible. And keys are much better than a password (if the key itself is saved on a secure media).

It's about security, not key login vs. password login. The settings we recommend are also recommendations when you use keys.

But you are right, we don't provide a HowTo for setting up key logins.

We should, and will. SSH security is important.

for the german speaking/ reading ppl here: there was a very good article about setting up vpn for accessing securly your data in the last "Linux-Server Praxis - ct kompakt". If somebody has from the team it, he could maybe summerize it for the wiki/ manual.
I unfortunatly gave ie it away.
