I got a HP 4320s
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm ... 45545.html

It has a ATI Radeon HD 5470 video card.

The Good
1. aptosid geras installed correctly without any issue.
2. video card works 2D (see below)
3. Sound works
4. Webcam works
*. IS IT FAST

The Bad
1. wifi does not work
2. video card 3D does not work
3. The hard disk (a 320GB Hitachi) does not have any temp sensor.
**. It gets VERY HOT!!!!

About the problems:
1. I did what I was told by the aptsid installer
Detected driver that requires firmware to operate
-------------------------------------------------

      Quote:
#
# Follow these instructions to obtain the correct firmware
# and activate the r8169 driver:

apt-get update
apt-get install firmware-realtek
modprobe -r r8169
modprobe r8169

You must first configure apt to install this non-free software,
refer to the offline manual that came with this distribution.

Detected driver that requires firmware to operate
-------------------------------------------------

#
# Follow these instructions to obtain the correct firmware
# and activate the rt2800lib driver:

apt-get update
apt-get install firmware-ralink
modprobe -r rt2800lib
modprobe rt2800lib

You must first configure apt to install this non-free software,
refer to the offline manual that came with this distribution.

Detected driver that requires firmware to operate

#
# Follow these instructions to obtain the correct firmware
# and activate the rt2800pci driver:

apt-get update
apt-get install firmware-ralink
modprobe -r rt2800pci
modprobe rt2800pci

You must first configure apt to install this non-free software,
refer to the offline manual that came with this distribution.

But the scan can not find a network

--------------

2.I can not enable any desktop effect. The same happens with an other PC with HD3200

**. The most serious is the temp which is 65-75C, when in windows it is 35-55C. That is a very serious issue and I think sooner or later I will damage the hardware.

Any suggestion about those issues.

PS. If you want to know anything else about the aptosid compatability please ask.

You need to install the GPU firmware for ATI and reboot for the radeon driver to work properly. This will most likely also heal the temperature issue.
This Notebook is Linux certified by HP, so there should not remain any issues at all.

Greetings,
Chris

Thank you Chris.
If you talk about firmware-linux, firmware-linux & firmware-linux-nonfree they are all installed.

Maybe is linux certified but the right button of the touchpad does not work either Smile, but i dont mind about this.
