FYI: the latest dist-upgrade breaks the asix driver (used by the Netgear FA-120 USB ethernet device which I use because my micro-ATX board only has one eithernet port)...doesn't matter if you're running the .36 kernel or the .37 kernel

Errors are as follows:
[ 7.188171] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: register 'asix' at usb-0000:00:12.2-1, Netgear FA-120 USB Ethernet, 00:0f:b5:82:65:39
[ 7.188199] usbcore: registered new interface driver asix
[ 83.864173] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: Failed to enable software MII access
[ 88.864105] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: Failed to enable hardware MII access
[ 101.398096] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: Failed to enable hardware MII access
[ 106.398156] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: Failed to enable software MII access
[ 126.894078] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: Failed to enable software MII access
[ 131.894142] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: Failed to enable hardware MII access
[ 136.894081] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: Failed to enable software MII access
[ 147.895193] asix 1-1:1.0: eth1: Failed to enable software MII acces

Looking at the driver, it looks like it has problem writing the USB commands to the USB device, so it looks broken to me Razz

Anyone else use a USB-Ethernet adapter that still works?

FYI, swapped it out w/ an airlink 101 adapter (asix 88178 chipset) and it works fine....also tried out an apple usb/ethernet adapter and it works too

ok..so I was wrong about the airlink101 adapter and the apple usb ethernet adapter. The airlink101 adapter locked up my system. The apple one doesn't have the failed to enable MII access warning like the netgear adapter, but it does spew a stack dump into syslog:

If you're using a usb/ethernet adapter, it looks like dist-upgrade is pretty messed up at this point Razz

FYI, I logged this as bug 614326: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=614326

Apparently, it also affects people running kernel 2.6.32, so it's not kernel dependent...
