This week the scanner part of my my xerox 3119 is not working any more. I have not changed the configuration. Before was working fine with xerox_mfb backend.

My question is this: scanner (and sane backends) are now configured by udev or hal? Something has changed? Or is a Kernel difference?

I an older version of aptosid on a USB pen the scanner is working. Apparently the configuration is the same.

The actual configuration is that I don't have a libsane.rules in
/etc/udev/rules.d/

but I have a 20-libsane.fdi in /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/

The relevant content of this is
      Quote:
<!-- Xerox WorkCentre 3119 Series -->
<match key="usb.product_id" int="0x4265">
<append key="info.capabilities" type="strlist">scanner</append>
<merge key="scanner.access_method" type="string">proprietary</merge>

I have tried to copy /lib/udev/rules.d/60-libsane.rules in /etc/udev/rules.d/ (with or without removing the hal entry)
containing this
      Quote:
# Xerox WorkCentre 3119 Series
ATTRS{idVendor}=="0924", ATTRS{idProduct}=="4265", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

but nothing.

Here the relevant information.

Kernel:

      Quote:
Linux uno 2.6.37-0.slh.25-aptosid-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Feb 16 01:06:18 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

scanimage -L as user:

No Xerox...

scanimage as root same result!

Now is solved with the last dist-upgrade. I imagine that the mfp backend for Xerox or Samsung scanners was boken.
