So I guess that could be related to the plasmoids installed. This is my list:
Analog clock
Application launcher
CWP
Digital clock
Drop2ftp
Folder view
Gx mail Notify
Hardware temperature
Keyboard
News
Notes
Pager
PWikipedia
Showdesktop
Small Nvidia GPU sensor
System tray
Task manager
Translator (translatoid)
Trashcan |

I am just commenting that I am using pure sid. I have not installed anything from http://qt-kde.debian.net/ or Frickelplatz.
I am using kde 4.4.5.
...
bmorency,
you didn't write you had the problem..., but assuming so and moving back to update warning...
And please write what plasmoid you're using. |

To be sure maybe we could try renaming (temporarily) plasma* configuration items in /home/user/.kde/share/config/ to plasma*.bak and reboot. |

| I did move .kde/ out of the way and kde started. adding plasmacon or moc widget does crash kde. system monitor works fine. that is why I was assuming that the plasma-scriptenigne-python is the problem. |

My first post in this thread (the 7th post) mentioned I had this problem and that I was using the gmail widget.
Quote:
I had mine crash as well. I deleted my .kde folder and logged in again it was ok. Now I am setting up my desktop the way I had it before. Before I had the gmail plasma widget on my panel at the bottom and now every time I try to re added it it will crash on me and I cannot put it back.
I still have yet to install the latest python and python-minimal today
I should have referenced my original post. Thanks |

| plasma-scriptengine-python is surely the culprit. I've removed it and kde is starting again. |

Do the other plasmoids that don't depend on plasma-scriptengine-python still work though? |

| Yes. Every single plasmoid not using it works. |

So maybe plasma-scriptengine-python needs to be rebuilt against the new libs.
crashing plasmoids should NOT take down the desktop in theory |
