Hello. I think I've got a Broadcom WiFi card, but I don't know how to install drivers and use it. Is there a program that provides a list of available wireless networks?
http://manual.aptosid.com/de/nf-firm-de.htm#ieee802.11 I followed this guide and always get an error:
root@sidbook:/home/kasu# apt-get install firmware-brcm80211
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
firmware-brcm80211 is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 516 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y
Setting up firmware-b43legacy-installer (4.178.10.4-5) ...
Not supported card here (PCI id 14e4:4727)!
Use b43 firmware. This is just for the b43legacy driver.
Aborting.
dpkg: error processing firmware-b43legacy-installer (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
configured to not write apport reports
Errors were encountered while processing:
firmware-b43legacy-installer
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
root@sidbook:/home/kasu#
Plus; "fw-detect" does not detect anything.
Thanks in advance. ^.^ |

Hi. It seems as if your wifi card is not yet surported. You can try to find out the chipset, and see if there is firmware/driver for it. I would suggest a Netgear wg111 v3 USB wereless network adapter. I have one here, it works with no firmware/driver install. Just make sure you get v3, as other versions have different chipsets that may not work! Systems here are IBM Thinkpad T43, and T42. Both have 1.73 gig P4 mobile processors, and both have IBM minipci wireless cards, that work in aptosid with appropropriet firmware installed. If no wlan controllers are shown in Ceni, you do not have a working wifi card/adapter.
Good luck! |
