Perhaps I'm just missing the obvious, but is there a way that I can change the way the date and time is displayed for posts?
What I see is "dd-mm-yyyy, hh:mm". What I would like to see is "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm" but do not see this as an option. Perhaps it is not an option but the "dd-mm-yyyy" date format is not intuitive to me.
Cheers! |

Sorry, there is no option for a personal time format setting yet. However, I will see if we can add this feature with the next major upgrade of the forum module. I will also check if your proposed format can become default, as it is better understud world-wide.
Greetings,
Chris |

Sounds good, as some people in USA/Canada get confused by the European date format. A custom personal preferences setting for the date/time format would be a great addition to the user control panel. |

As the internet is effectively a 'global forum', I also think it's a great idea to provide folks with 'date/time' format options that are 'sensitive' to local conventions.

Greetings,
Chris
Good to hear, I'm all for providing people with choice.
Though (dare I say it), as an Australian where the UK/European date time format is utilised, I'm curious as to the accuracy of the suggestion that the date/time format used in the States & Canada is "better understood world wide".
Perhaps, 'better understood by a significant proportion of the Internet community'.
Cheers. |

What I meant is an option to show the date/time in the format you choose..only to YOU not the whole board. |

I understood you entirely, and I agree with you.
I'm not sure where the confusion came from, perhaps if I word it differently.
The Internet is a global forum, the aptosid forum has a global membership, and therefore it makes sense to provide individual users an option to select a date / time format that suits their local needs, or if you like their location on the globe, (country).
I hope that clears things up.
Cheers mate. |

I am thinking about making YYYY-MM-DD, HH:MM default, which should be understandable everywhere. Any comments/suggestions?
Greetings,
Chris
No problems here, providing those of us who are comfortable with the current date / time format DD-MM-YYYY, HH:MM have the option to select it.
While it hasn't been mentioned specifically, I'm happy with the time being displayed in 24 Hr clock 'mode'.
There may be some people who like the AM / PM method.
BTW. I've just noticed that the "Joined" date is displayed YYYY-MM-DD, little wonder that some folks find this confusing. |

Since this is an international forum, then like the OP I'd choose the International Date Format (ISO 8601) - unambiguous, computer-sortable and logical: years-months-days hours:minutes[:seconds][:milliseconds].
http://www.w3.org/QA/Tips/iso-date
Either that or the Roman numerals already mentioned...
I'm from England and apologise for our wacky date format |

Thanks for this. I don't get "confused" by the European format, but it takes an extra second or so for my brain to decode it and register it. |

The problem is when both date and month are <= 12.
Technically I see YYYY/MM/DD and HR(24HR FORMAT)/MIN as the correct format that should be followed- It is a logical
sequence.
The Americans reversed everything to satisfy their ego. Right-side drive (Left Side driver), switches ON upwards.
Even we have different gallons.
Off Topic: If the number system was base 2^n where n is an integer, Life would have been easier for
computers and programmers. |

Actually is has nothing to do with ego, it is about safety, driving on the left kills
