Did a d-u on my mothers T60 today, about 4 weeks since last d-u. Trackpoint and mouse doesn't work anymore after d-u, I enabled the touchpad in bios but that doesn't work either. Unfortunately I couldn't reach internet from that box without the mouse working and now I am not at the same location as the faulty box.
Anyone else had this problem? |

today?
this sounds like an issue from some weeks ago.
you probably have /run in your root-tree.
delete it and d-u again. make sure you get sysvinit 2.88dsf-13.6

| Deleting /run/ at this time would be among the most stupid things to do, now that /run/ is being used by the system and that important state info and crucial runtime parts of udev are stored there. DON'T even think about doing this, as it would lead to disaster. |

| ok, is there anything I can do or shall I wait and hope that a future d-u will fix the problem? I am sorry I can't give anymore information from the faulty box. |

sorry, i was a bit unclear. because of your symthoms, i was thinking, your mirror might a bit behind. check if sysvinit 2.88dsf-13.6 is installed. if its not, then you have an old (faulty) /run implementation.

OK, how do I do that, (or more specified, how do my mother do that with me telling her how to in the telephone) and without mouse function? |

$ apt-cache policy sysvinit
and check the version after "Installed:".
You need to tell your mother how to open console... or got to vtty1 by Ctrl+alt+F1 and logging in.
or... you login to her PC via ssh and you do your administration task. |

For information, yesterday before I went home I acctually trained my mother to go to vtt1 and log in as root. She is sort of afraid for the computer and easily get very upset if she shall do anything unusual with it. But after this and a if we can make everything work again maybe she can do the d-u:s by herself Unfortunately I have not prepared her router to be able to forward an ssh log in from here. |
