Post subject: [FIXED] module-init-tools breaks kernel postinst  PostPosted: 01.06.2011, 19:33

Today's module-init-tools 3.13-1 upload negatively affects (#628844) installing new kernels, reverting to 3.12-1 from testing fixes the issue; this bug results in lots of (firmware related) noise and long install times, but has no critical side effects.

Given that module-init-tools updates are absolutely critical for upcoming linux 3.0 versions, we strongly recommend against putting module-init-tools on hold.

If this is just modinfo spamming erroneous warnings and not actually affecting module handling perhaps this can be lived with until a bugfix is uploaded?

Same thing happened here. It is annoying but I can live with it until a fix is in place.

The kernels actually install fine despite all the modinfo spam and no problems seen with modules so this is more of a "cosmetic" bug.

Version 3.16-1 is in the repositories now. (At least for AMD64.) Does it fix this issue?

* New upstream release.
* Fixed the fix for #604017 which broke modinfo -F. (Closes: #628844)
