Perhaps it has something to do with the announcement Devil posted here?
In addition to Devil's post I recall reading in an rss feed that a good deal of work is being done to improve efficiency and reliabilty of the database used on the FTP Master and other maintenance tasks.
If memory serves me correctly it was on Planet Debian.

This is caused by the upgrade of libgtk2.0-0 (and relative packages).
On my amd64, I can proceed d-u without removing anything by holding this.
# echo libgtk2.0-0 hold | dpkg --set-selections
but probably the dependent packages will catch up in a few days so better wait for some days.

First the "nv" driver goes away so now I get the VGA driver with 1280X1024 resolution instead of 1920x1080 since the nouveau driver doesn't load. I just did dist-upgrade hoping that problem may have been fixed. Now, because of the missing libraries, I can't use gimp or gramps, which were my two most used applications. Also, the small screen is still there. Time to go back to Ubuntu?

Not to seem rude, but perhaps it is... I don't think aptosid is for everyone. But, maybe you could try other alternatives. Debian stable is great (things don't break!) if you don't mind outdated packages.
I've heard good things about Mint too.
I hope you find a perfect distro for you. If not, try to balance the pros and cons of each.... |

I used to demand that the devs compensate me with a Rickshaw (complete with puller) to compensate me for my dist-upgrade woes. Kind of like in this clip here:

But -- as they never took me up on the offer -- I decided that I had better learn more about the internal functioning of debian packaging and overall range of things that could happen during a dist-upgrade.
While doing so, I decided to always make a backup first in case something untoward happened; in which case I could just revert to the last snapshot.
That's worked very well so far -- although I must confess that I would *rather* have the Rickshaw; and the appropriate clothing befitting a man of my station to go with it of course. Like these cool pith helmets:

After dist-grade I have reinstalled kaffeine.
