is it best to wait until 4.6 enters sid repos or can someone provide instructions on how to install successfully from the debian qt (I think that was the name) repo?

There are some other topics about the qt repos (just search for them  . In summery you can use this repos like it is mentioned on the site
http://qt-kde.debian.net/.
But there will be maybe no smooth upgrade to 4.6.2... |

While the packages from the qt-kde.debian repository are of good quality, the same warnings as for any package from Debian experimental are valid. If you want a solid and supported upgrade path, wait until it hits sid, and check our upgrade warnings before actually dist-upgrading.
