i'd like to learn more about computer and network security.

could anyone suggest a program of study or certification that i could work towards that would demonstrate competence on my part, and make any skills and knowledge i acquire marketable?

thanks in advance for any advice, ike.

thanks so much devil for these specific and very helpful links. they were a good starting point for my swim thru the alphabet soup that is computer certifications and certifying organizations: nsa nss cnss niats iisscc isaca giac gse gslc gisf gcia gcih gsna cissa cism cisp dod blahdeblah.

the most helpful thing i've found is this US Department of Defense document listing their acceptable certs and the organisations that provide them.

http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/corr ... 57001m.pdf

it has been recently updated, and WHAT DID MY HEART GOOD is that in huge red letters, for all the world to see, Micro$oft was CROSSED OFF the list of approved certification providers.

the crapola they've been pushing, the government no longer wants.

thanks again for the nudge in the right direction, ike.
