pppoe setup, i.e. [PC]=------------<ethernet>-----------=[DSL-modem]

Since two days, I have no network after bootup. No changes to network config that I know of. Suspects are a dist-upgrade and some 'apt-get install foo bar', quite a bunch of the latter, although nothing network-related in the first place.

pppoeconf brings up network connection fair enough, but it doesn't heed my
      Code:
Your PPPD is configured now. Would you like to start the connection at boot time? y
anymore. Or so it seems.

'pon dsl-provider' does what it should. I could fumble that into many of a gazillion startup scripts I guess, but I'd like a clean setup with network respecting runlevels etc. pp.

Any hints of how to achieve that?
