during DU i got the following message:

(its written by me from a screen foto, so syntax could be wrong)

      Quote:

setting up udev (170-1)
mv cannot move /dev/.udev to /run/udev/: no such file or directory
dpkg: error processing udev (--configure)
configured not write apport reports
configured to not write apport reports
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of fuse-utils
fuse-utils depends on udev | makedev >2.3.1-80
dpkg: error processing fuse-utils
dependency problems . leaving unconfigured

Errors were encountred while processing:
udev
fuse-utils

I then created /run/udev/
and made a apt-get install makedev
&& apt-get dist-upgrade/install -f

everything went fine, I think...
udev 170-1 is installed now!

Would it be save to reboot....?

Sorry I'm too late to offer much help, but just for the record...

I got the exact same error while upgrading my 64-bit box on Sunday 22nd May, but my 32-bit box was not affected. I have the same sysvinit version, and no packages on hold.

I created /run and then DU'ed again and it proceeded fine. The system reboots safely into the new kernel.

I'm no expert but I have no idea why the scripts didn't just do:
      Code:
mkdir -p /run/udev
Perhaps the /run directory should already have been created by an earlier script which somehow failed.

thanks for the answer. I suppose you are right, that a former version should have created the dir.
Anyway, everything is running now.
