Try ensuring all desktop effects are off (via system settings) and maybe try adding firmware-linux-nonfree (from Debian sid non-free) to get the firmware for the video chip which just might improve things.

Effects was turned off by default. I tried to install firmware which you mentioned.
Now It's:

Videocard prod: X.org R300 Project
Render: Gallinium 0.4 on ATI RS690.

And I should say that this driver works worse then previous Sad

I guess you should remove the firmware again then (though that removes video acceleration and hardware 3d acceleration).

I seem to recall there was a way to disable the compositing support but can't find it now, it's probably worth a go if you can figure it out or someone chimes in with the method.

It should work better with the r300g driver than with software rendering. One thing I would recommend is using mesa 7.11 (from experimental) as there have been a lot of improvements in the r300g driver (and the gallium3d infrastructure in general) over 7.10.x.

What exact package I need to upgrade? I just found mesa-common-dev and mesa-utils.

I've found out that 7.10 is the latest version. I didn't find 7.11 in experimental nor unstable repo.

mesa-common-dev and mesa-utils are irrelevant here. Take a look at packages like
      Code:
libegl1-mesa libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libglu1-mesa
That's at least what's installed on my system, mesa related, and all of them have a version in experimental (7.11~0-2 currently).

I don't have just "libegl1-mesa". I did dist-upgrade today at night. However the version of these libs are 7.10.3-3. Where did you get 7.11? I have experimental repo, but seems It hasn't these libs.

Please do apt-get update first (with experimental repo active)

then

apt-cache policy libegl1-mesa

your results should be
      Code:
root@x1:/home/piper# apt-cache policy libegl1-mesa
libegl1-mesa:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 7.10.3-3
  Version table:
     7.11~0-2 0
          1 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ experimental/main amd64 Packages
     7.10.3-3 0
        500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ sid/main amd64 Packages

You could install like this
      Code:
apt-get install libegl1-mesa libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libglu1-mesa/experimental

I dunno why...but... apt-cache libegl1-mesa shows that I have 7.11 package installed. and the available package is 7.10....

apt-get install libegl1-mesa libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libglu1-mesa/experimental

This string gave upgrade just for libglu1-mesa. So I manually installed all libs from experimental branch.

Now OpenGL version is 7.11. But It works the same with bugs Sad

BTW, If I need to install the newest version of package, APT will install it from Unstable, not experimental branch? And I need always to mention "/experimental"?

You should probably elaborate on your bugs if they're still present with latest upstream.

      Code:
apt-get install libegl1-mesa libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libglu1-mesa/experimental

Works on my ati machine, and how I normally do it, have no idea why it didn't work for you Sad

Another option would have been to do
      Code:
apt-get install libegl1-mesa= 7.11.0-2 libgl1-mesa-dri= 7.11.0-2 libgl1-mesa-glx= 7.11.0-2 libglu1-mesa= 7.11.0-2

Of course with the experimental repos active

You should disable the experimental repos after installing your desired apps.

Doing a dist-upgrade with the experimental repos active may cause your machine to say moo and is not a wise choice
