On previous kernels (< 2.6.35) I had to add
      Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-sky
to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf in order to have 5.1 sound (or 4.1 doesn't matter I think). With the new kernel and this setting I have no sound at all(yes, I double checked alsamixer Wink ). When I remove that line, I have sound, but only front speakers are used and it sound rather bad.

Anyone has any idea what changed or what can I do?
If any additional info is needed, please say so and I will provide what is needed.

I tried to do some googling, but I didn't find anything helpful.

just a quick shot

If you have problems with autodetection of the model, or the results are not as good as you hoped for (small number of channels, low sound...) try to specify the model in /etc/modprobe.conf (basic, auto, quanta, fujitsu, lifebook)

Hmmm… I tried a lot of different model parameters but unfortunately none of them gives me 4.1 sound. Well, I'll have to live with that for now;-)

I had sound that was really, really low in my desktop. I tried a few things. What worked for me was installing alsamixergui and raising the "Master Front" volume.

Good luck.
