Only root has permissions to read this file.
Greetings,
Chris

Wait, are you talking about "wpa-psk" or "wpa-password"?
The later is cleartext, the first is a preshared key you can generate with your ssid and the password. Check wpa_passphrase(8). Thats not bulletproof obviously, but it is at least not the password in clear-text…

See also aptosid manual and please ensure that this file is really only readable by root:
      Code:
$ ls -l /etc/network/interfaces
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 951 18. Aug 14:31 /etc/network/interfaces

$ echo 'Oh my god! everyone can read it o_O'
Oh my god! everyone can read it o_O

# chmod 600 /etc/network/interfaces

$ ls -l /etc/network/interfaces
-rw------- 1 root root 951 18. Aug 14:31 /etc/network/interfaces

$ echo 'Thats better…'
Thats better…

Yes, it is confirmed, this file is visible only at root. By the way, as suggested by DonKult I changed file permission to 600 (it was 640).
Thanks,
Barlafuss
