What about Dennis Ritchie? He deserves honors as job does. He made a lot for the gnu linux. But I haven't seeing too much words about him. He was the creator of the c++.
cheers.

That might be because he was called Dennis Ritchie
And he (co)authored C and UNIX (C++ is a different "mistake").
"UNIX is very simple, it just needs a genius to understand its simplicity."
"C is quirky, flawed, and an enormous success."
But yes, his press coverage was (always) lower compared to media-bigplayers like Jobs, but a gazillion of "RIP" posts aren't going to help anyone of the two or there families anyway. I never meet Jobs nor Ritchie so i can't really grieve over the loose - you don't know what you have lost if you have never experienced it. It feels more like slapping everyone who really grieves and has lost a good comrade/friend/dad/grandfather/… with these "i have to post something"-RIP-posts.
As a user of the UNIX copycat Linux (sry, Linus) and as a C and C++ developer i am thankful for their/his contributions to my life nontheless as many others did as-well without being ever mentioned on a single sheet of paper. I am sure it would be different without them but i can't imagine how - but for others they had a more personal and more deeper impact, so i hope they can conserve these impacts, remember him and proceed in changing the world, one tiny bit at a time.
May his soul and the souls of all the departed (faithful by God's mercy) rest in peace. |
