Hello:

I am hoping thay someone can help me activate java on my aptosid system:

      Code:
rossi@siduxbox ~/ $uname -a
Linux siduxbox 3.0-1.slh.4-aptosid-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Aug 9 02:44:36 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Java is installed:
      Code:
 dpkg -l | grep -i java
ii  sun-java6-bin                             6.26-1                           Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 (architecture dependent files)
ii  sun-java6-demo                            6.26-1                           Sun Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK) 6 demos and examples
ii  sun-java6-fonts                           6.26-1                           Lucida TrueType fonts (from the Sun JRE)
ii  sun-java6-jdk                             6.26-1                           Sun Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK) 6
ii  sun-java6-jre                             6.26-1                           Sun Java(TM) Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 (architecture independent files)
ii  tzdata-java                               2011h-3                          time zone and daylight-saving time data for use by java runtimes
ii  velocity                                  1.6.2-4                          Java-based template engine for web application

I have tried many, many things to get it working.

Would someone be able to give me a few hints on how to activate java on sidux?

I would really appreciate this.

Thanks for your patience with this.

Kind regards,

Angelo

Good Morning:

I would like to add more remarks to my previous note.

Java works on my system.

The exact question is "How do I enable java on my web browser"

I am using iceweasel. All java apps that utilize the web browser fail. They hang the browser.

I have tried all sorts of things, but nothing seems to work.

Regards,

Angelo

      Code:
apt-get install sun-java6-plugin

Greetings,
Chris

Hello:

root@siduxbox:~# apt-get install sun-java6-plugin
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
sun-java6-plugin is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 562 not upgraded.
root@siduxbox:~#

It's already there but still doesn't work. I gotta being doing something wrong.

Regards,

Angelo

What are your settings in
      Code:
update-alternatives --config java

Is the java plugin enabled in your browsers? Check extensions/plugins.

Do you have an example url?

Last time i tried e.g. the follow "worked" (it was on i386; my new amd64 has no java yet):
http://www.tk.informatik.tu-darmstadt.d ... agation-i/
(just ignore the applet itself; it seems to be a bit buggy and is going to be replaced with html5-canvas+javascript anyway)

I have had similar trouble in the past with the Sun Java browser plugin in Aptosid x86_64. I currently have Java browser apps working using icedtea-plugin and openjdk-6, as I posted here, having since upgraded those packages to more recent versions. Openjdk is an alternative Java runtime. I haven't yet tried the 7 version.

Kind regards,

Angelo
